DNDLT Trust Training Day 2026
Belonging
On Friday, 22nd May 2026, over 450 staff from across the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust came together at The Glow in Newton Aycliffe for our Trust Training Day. The day was one of the most beautiful days of the year so far, the sun was shining and the mood was positive as we built the day around this year’s powerful theme: Belonging.
It was wonderful to see colleagues from across our family of schools gathered together in one room, sharing experiences and reflecting on how we continue to create environments where every member of our school communities can flourish.
The day began with a warm welcome from CEO Paul Rickeard and Chair of the Board John Taylor, setting the tone for a meaningful and uplifting day of professional development and reflection. Paul encouraged everyone to consider an important question: “Where do you feel belonging?”
We were privileged to hear from a fantastic line-up of speakers who each explored belonging and flourishing through different lenses.
Andy Wolfe, alongside Catherine Walmsley from the National Society for Education, explored the foundations needed for every child to achieve and thrive. Their session highlighted the importance of creating a flourishing school system where all children feel valued, supported, and able to succeed. They also discussed DfE documentation and strategies around thriving. Catherine spoke passionately about belonging as a deep human need, reminding us that strong relationships and inclusive environments sit at the heart of education.
One of the standout moments of the day came from one of our main speakers, Diana Osagie. Diana was incredibly charismatic, outgoing, and engaging, instantly filling the room with energy and positivity. Through humour, honesty, and relatable stories from her own experiences in education leadership, she inspired staff to “Give Yourself Permission to be Great.” Her message celebrated the dedication of everyone working in schools and reminded us all of the impact we have every single day on the lives of young people.
In the afternoon, Julie Liddell from Still Human delivered an interactive wellbeing workshop titled A Mind Less Full. Staff took part in guided meditation exercises and reflected on practical ways to manage stress and prioritise mental wellbeing. Julie’s session was a powerful reminder of the importance of caring for ourselves as we continue caring for others.
Reflecting on the day, CEO Paul Rickeard said:
“Our Trust Training Day was a wonderful celebration of who we are as a family of schools. The conversations around belonging, wellbeing, and flourishing reminded us that when people feel valued and connected, they can truly thrive. Seeing colleagues come together with such positivity, openness, and commitment to our shared vision was incredibly inspiring.”
The day was filled with sunshine, laughter, reflection, meaningful discussion, and genuine connection. Most importantly, it reinforced our shared commitment to ensuring every child, every staff member, and every school within DNDLT is a place where people feel they truly belong, are valued and no one is left behind.
A huge thank you to Diana Osagie, Andy Wolfe, Catherine Walmsley, and Julie Liddell for their inspiring contributions, and to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
It truly was a beautiful day.
